SANS 10400-XA:2021
SANS 10400-XA is currently under review, with the proposed draft standard having been published.

If the proposed standard is adopted in its current format, the regulation changes can be summarised as follows:

-
SANS 204 will fall away and will be integrated into the new SANS 10400-XA.
-
SANS 1544 is going to be implemented on all new buildings. (SANEDI: non-residential buildings are going to display their energy performance certificate by December 2022)
-
SANS 10400 XA – 6 Climatic zones fall away, and the 7 energy zones are implemented.
-
SANS 10400 – window ratio has increased to 20% from 15%, but garage and patio areas are no longer included in footprint.
-
SANS 10400 will now require shading calculations for all new submissions.
-
Southern Cape Condensation Problem Area – Low E glass for single glazed applications will not be approved. (Double glazing is the solution)
